VIDEO: Controversy over Seun Kuti’s Stratford show

Seun Kuti on stage at the Royal  Theatre Stratford

What was meant to be an interesting musical exhibition from Seun Kuti at the New World Nigeria event held in Royal Theatre Stratford, London turned into a night of disappointment as the Afrobeat singer’s performance was cut short.
Seun was a few minutes into his performance when security officials instructed him to stop, because the guests who attended the show were dancing. Apparently, the officials wanted the guests (in their numbers) to sit down while Seun performed; but the son of the late Afrobeat king Fela Anikulapo Kuti wasn’t hearing any of it.
Seun explained that his performance was delayed and contract to perform had expired but he still insisted on performing because he wanted his fans to ‘have a good time’.
‘I’m just here for you guys so if some people are stopping you from dancing, I will stop the show as well’, a relaxed Seun Kuti told his fans while as they cheered back at him in support.
‘@RealSeunKuti & his audience were ripped off by #RoyalTheatreStratford ‘s idiotic security stopping people dancing at a AfroBeat show? Mad !’, a UK festival promoter Stephen Budd tweeted.
Watch below how the whole thing went down and an exclusive interview with Seun Kuti right after the show courtesy Factory 78.
